Question about Olwell flutes

I’m going to start saving for a wooden flute. I live about 45 minutes away from Patrick Olwell, and I would like to know how long the wait time is for a keyless ABW flute is from him. My other choice is Casey Burns, whose website gives a wait time of 2-4 months, more or less. I really don’t want to get on a year-long or long waiting list. Can someone help me out here?

Thank you to all who reply.

With best regards,

Stephen

The Olwells are the only ones who can answer your question accurately. Historically, the wait for a keyless has been about a year. If you don’t want to wait, I’d suggest you buy the Olwell currently listed for sale here on the forum, it’s a rare opportunity.

Good things come to those who wait, an Olwell flute is a perfect example of that. For the less patient as Loren said above, buy the used one. There are other makers in the U.S. too who may have only a couple month wait, Dave Copley and John Gallagher come to mind, and both make very nice flutes. I own flutes from all three makers and love them all.

Patrick seems to be very busy, I emalied him some months ago and I never get any answer.

I know a couple of guys who plays an olwell keyless and they told to me that the waiting list is around a year for unkeyed flutes.

You could consider other makers, I think there is life beyond Patrick olwell.

I actually just received a Bb flute from Patrick yesterday. He’s been great to work with and was very punctual. It took almost exactly a year.
