PROBLEMS WITH THE CORKS

Hey people, I hope you could please help me, because I’m not having a good time right now! ..

My Lehart’s D flute, got stuck in one of the corks, I grease the corks very well before playing, but I was playing with quite a hot weather in my room. So when I stopped playing, and tried to dissamble my flute, it was impossible, the left hand body part got stucked to the barrel and I can’t move it, I don’t want to apply more force to it, because it will be a risk for having a crack or something..

Please, if someone had an experience like this, or knows what to do, I will be very grateful!!

Thank you!
Diego.

When you play the flute, the wood swells, particularly at the joint closest to the head of the flute. You should leave the flute as it is for now (assembled) and let it dry out for a day or two, then you should be able to disassemble the flute safely.

It may be that the top joint of the flute has gone out of round a bit, which often causes that first joint to bind wood on wood when you play for a long period of time and swelling occurs at that joint. If this is the case (out of round) then the flute can usually be put back on the lathe and the top tennon turned down a bit, to make the fit correct again. You should send the flute back to the original maker for this, if at all possible.

Wouldn’t be a problem to transport and clean the flute, turning out the Tuning Slide with the emouchure? ..

I would just let it be, for a day or two, like Loren said. The wood will shrink down, and then it should be o.k.. I know someone who played their wooden recorder so much, it took 3 days to get it apart.
