Tenon joint problem ?

Hi there…

I just had new Copley’s F flute. It is very nice and play like dream, but few days ago, i had a problem with its cork joint (the one connect to tunning slide). It is a bit stuck (other joints are very smooth ) everytime i assemble and dis-assemble the flute. I usually have to use man power but im so afraid to hurt it in long term :frowning:

Dave instruction said it can be fixed by light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper.

Does it mean i should use sand paper to smooth inside the tenon (female part) ? Do i have to change the cork ?

Please give me suggestion as im so naive about wood stuff.

Thank you.

If you’re not sure, contact Dave directly. However, I’m willing to bet he is talking about taking the sandpaper to the cork.

Before doing that, though, you are using cork grease each time you assemble it, right?

Eric

Thank Jay, i sure apply cork grease everytime a assemble it. As i mentioned above, other joints work very smoothy, problem only occurs with this big one.

I might bring it to local music store tomorrow but not very sure they can fix it or not since that one rather focus on piano than woodwind :frowning:

You should sand only the cork and only if you know what you’re doing. Take it to a pro and watch what he or she does, if you can. There are tricks to this.
