Problems with my Copeland Low D, any others?

Just got my low D Copeland. The tuning seems to be off, I’ll tune it for the low A, then many of the other notes are sharp or flat, sometimes quite a bit. Then there is the buz on the low notes, D to G. The higher notes are fine, except for the c natural that is very sharp when done with the 4/5fingering. Anyone else had problems? Solutions? It’s a beautiful looking insturment, and I wish it playe as well as my high D. Thanks, John. Please e-mail me with your responses, I’m not on the list right now.

I just received my Copeland Low D with this batch too, and it’s exactly what I wanted in a whistle. I love the rich tone and solid sound, down to the low D. About the problems you have experienced, I have also notice the C natural is way out of tune when played OXXOOO. I’m half-holing that note with the Copeland. The rest of the whistle is pretty much in tune with itself, and the sound is gorgeous throughout the range.

Don’t be discouraged. First check to see if there is anything in the windway disrupting the airflow, or anywhere inside the instrument.Run warm (not hot!) water through the mouthpiece to clear it out.
Try to get another whistle player to play it for a second opinion if you possibly can. If not, try to tune by ear as you play rather than tune each note to a tuner. Some whistles are very responsive to breath pressure and need some getting-used-to. You learn to adjust your breath to the instrument.
If all else fails, contact Jim at Copeland Whistles - I have found him to be very helpful and accomodating. Good luck

Right. The Copeland low D is very breath
sensitive–stay with it and the
problems may disappear.
