Overton low D...question

Hi all
I just got an Overton low D. Wow what a great sounding whistle. But I have a problem. It seems to me that the second octave D is a bit flat. When I try to blow it up into tune, it seems like it’s almost there but then it breaks into the third octave. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what exactly is the problem, is it me or the whistle, what are some possible solutions, etc.
Thanks
Jonathan

Mayb warming it up will help.

I agree. When cool, they tend to accumulate moisture and that totally changes the characteristics of the airstream hitting the blade. My low D has actually cut out when I get impatient and play before it warms up. It is always accumulated moisture that causes this.

I’m not sure, but I checked mine just now and can say positively that a flat high D is not standard issue.
It did, however, take me several weeks to get consistently decent sound out of my Overton low D between problems of hole coverage, clogging/warmth, and wind consistency.

Thanks for the info everyone. I hope that it is a warmth/condensation thing. We shall see…

If you find that the problem is with the whistle and not you, don’t hesitate to email Colin. He’ll be very helpful, even if you didn’t buy it directly from him.

P.S., I love frogs!

Thanks for the tip. Frogs are cool.
