Problem with Peter Pan

Ok…most of you here are aware of my obsession with peanut butter, and specifically with Peter Pan peanut butter. Lately, I’ve found that it tastes odd. The last two jars of it just had a funky flavor to it, to the point that I just can’t grab a spoonful and contentedly eat it like that. The taste is just WRONG. Does anyone else eat Peter pan peanut butter, and if you do, have you experienced this? You have to understand…this is a huge deal to me, and I need reassurance that it’s not going to be a permanent thing!

owned by ConAgra :astonished:

That’s not helpful, Denny. This is a HUGE deal!!! You should take my plight much more seriously :sniffle:

Is it a slightly bitter taste? I’ve noticed this in peanut butter and peanuts recently.

I was tryin’ ta hint that it might be time to explore other options :stuck_out_tongue:

You did not just say that…

No, it’s not bitter…it’s just off. I don’t know how to explain it. It seems to smell alright, but has this weird taste that’s just not supposed to be there. A non-peanutty goodness taste.

It tastes of goodness from a non-peanutty source? Could it be a hint of cashews?

Yeah. Other options. I always preferred Jif to Peter Pan peanut butter, but then I found I could get fresh-ground organic almond butter at the local co-op, and I ain’t been back to peanut butter since.

When I lived in Western Oklahoma we used to haul wheat to the Co-op.

No, the goodness is gone entirely..the bit I wrote above was confusing. It must be the lack of peanut butter that’s doing it. I haven’t had a spoonful in days :sniffle:

You know, despite my allegiance to Peter Pan, the peanut butter in Ireland is actually pretty good. It tastes more like the stuff from the co-op. BUT!!! this doesn’t help my problem.

Yeah, it took me a while to get used to using the name “co-op” for a grocery store. I was used to the grain co-op my grandpa took his crops to in Kansas.

Izzy, sorry to hear of your dilemma.

Being a JIF man, I can offer no useful guidance (err…other than to maybe try JIF) My wife trys to get me to eat the Adam’s all natural stuff. Mostly I find myself breaking wooden spoons trying to stir the miserable stuff and getting peanut oil everywhere. Adams makes a stir-free product with sufficient Crisco (or whatever it is they use in PB to keep it homogenized) to keep it from needing stirring.

My son-in-law recently introduced me to Nutella which is apparently hazelnut butter and cocoa…certainly unhealthy enough to be appealing. Maybe you could try that. Then it wouldn’t feel so much like you were being unfaithful to the lad in the tights.

Doc

Peter Pan has always been the worst major-brand pb to my knowledge. What’s the surprise? Consumer Reports rated JIF best-tasting of the bad ones (hydrogenated oil kind). Wait, Goober’s is worse.

My beef with the natural kind they sell at Costco is that it only comes in creamy. And since I really don’t want that hydro oil is my aging plumbing, I just don’t enjoy pb anymore.

This thread is deja-vu all over again. I guess it’s from when it was poisoned a few years back that I discovered many of you actually like Peter Pan.

I like Peter Pan best- to me the Jif has a bitter taste.
I have not noticed a change in taste so maybe you just got a bad batch Izz.

Actually the very best peanut butter I ever ate was the stuff they had at school way back when. I’ve never tasted any that was like it.

Around here the co-op is the Southern States feed(as in livestock) store.

Run a search engine using the words aflatoxin and peanut butter.

Do you still have an old jar so you could compare the ingredients? Maybe they’ve changed something. Kraft did that with their Catalina dressing - put lots of garlic in and called it a “great new taste”. Ugh.

I’m a Skippy kinda guy… smooth, if you must know…
But, hey! enough fiddlefaddling aroud:
Call the company! :swear: Hit the nail on the head ! :tomato:
Keep asking for the supervisors! :smiling_imp:
Demand they state any changes to the recipie! :tantrum:
