Just realized that it’s been almost two years since I last posted…shame on me!
I have a question regarding whistle sheet music for Enya’s May it be. I know, I’m sick of hearing about it too, but my sister wants that song played at her wedding (I think it has some kind of sentimental meaning for her), and my uncle and I were charged with the task of performing at the church. I have the piano sheet music, which my uncle needs, but can’t find any whistle music. I’m tried playing by ear, but I think I need some help! Also, is it better to use a low D whistle? I was kind of playing around with it using my Oak and it sounds really high…I don’t like it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! No rush though, the wedding isn’t until October!
The esiest way would have been to hijack the JPG file to a graphics program, shrink it, then re-post the smaller copy.
Of course that presupposes that you already have the graphics program and know how to do it, then how to post a graphic - I am not sure but I think the last step requires a server of your own to host it.
Anyhoo, that is the song - but that score is the hardest way I’ve ever seen of writing what is really a simple tune. Once you learn to ignore all the superffluous eighth and sixteenth notes and just play the simple tune you’re already domewhat familiar with using the note sequence provided above, it’s relatively simple.
Maybe some good person here who understands ABC a lot better than me could help???
Thanks! I’ll try and make out what I can from that! As I said, I’m not in any big rush, but as some of you may know, weddings come up pretty quickly! I just want to get a head start and practice as much as I can so that I don’t sound terrible!!
If you’re still reading this thread, a couple more things.
First, in answer to your unanswered question, this piece will work fine on a low whistle. If you do it, though, you migt run it by your sister first. While it may be the same tune, if she really loves the higher version from the film, she may not like the low.
Also, this is a good tune for a combination of music and ear. I assume you have either Enya’s cut or the LOTR soundtrack. Use the score to get the notes, but play to the tune in the soundtrack. It should come quickly.
Thanks for the advice Chuck_Clark! I’ve been playing along with the track, but just seems like it sounds too high! I don’t have a low whistle, so I suppose the first step would be to order one, and then compare to see which one is better. My sister doesn’t have much of an appreciation for music, and probably wouldn’t care which key I played in!!!
FWIW, I’m pretty certain that when we’re playing we hear the whistle as somehow higher than listeners hear it. Don’t know if this is true or not, but I wonder if anyone else has noticed this. All I’m sure of is that when I listen to a recording of myself, it sounds deeper than it sounded when I was playing.
I also find that I am alot quieter than I think I am, I guess its because our head is so much closer to the whistle than everybody else, but when i was playing for my school play, I kept playing super quietly because i thought it was to loud and people wouldnt be able to talk over it (Low D Overtone- Hamlet) but the directer was always telling me to be louder cuz they couldnt hear me.
