I’m a newby to this forum so please be patient as I learn the ropes.
I’m looking for help identifying the make/brand of an aluminum, non-tunable, low F whistle that I have. The bore is cylindrical, nicely made and has only a capital letter F stamped/engraved near the bottom front of the whistle. There are no other identifying marks that I can find.
I’ve searched the C&F reviews and scoured various vendor sites but cannot find a whistle that looks exactly like this one.
My best guess is that it’s a Cillian O’Briain. It looks a bit like an Overton but the fipple seems too short.
I’d like to sell this whistle because I don’t use it enough to carry it around but I don’t feel like I can list it until I can represent it properly.
Any suggestions or references would be appreciated.
I had a Cillian O’briain low D a while, my one had a O’briain stamped on the whistle itself, not sure if all were stamped but I would assume being a handmade whistle Cillian would’nt have missed one???
sponge
gets some pics up on the board, there willbe someone that can ID it,
A low D sold on ebay recently the seller thought its was made by Davy Spillane it was actually an old chieftain, that whistle was only marked with a D.
Those photos look a lot like a chieftain to me. My chieftain sop D has a “D” stamped in the same place and same orientation as your “F”, however mine says Chieftain and has a serial number on the back side at the bottom. The fipple and window appear identical.
its not an O’briain, the flattened part just after the tone hole has a long flat area in the shape of a v about 2 inches long that tapers into a point,
very easy to recognise and is also on the Reviol whistles that Maurice now makes, which is the same design that he made when working with Cillian.
