I went to the piperlink show in Milwaukee. All I could say after the show was wow. I was damn near speechless. Gay McKeon’s pipes were beautiful. I think I might have drooled. The whole show was spectacular.
We all got a laugh during the powerpoint presentation because Kieran O’Hare was in attendance, and up on the screen appeared a very young Mr. O’Hare. My friends, who are non-pipers, asked why everyone had laughed. After I told them that Kieran O’Hare was the person sitting next to my friend Matt, they searched around and couldn’t find him. LOL. They said he looked nothing like the picture.
Saw the show last night here in Chicago. I’ve seen videos of Tommy and Gay playing, but it just doesn’t compare to seeing them live. I was blown away. If anyone out there is sitting on the fence re: whether to see the show – particularly beginners – I’d suggest you do.
A great show. Loved the polished “show-and-tell” aspect of it while it entertained; I think it succeeded at being very informative to those who don’t know much about the uilleann pipes, yet the cognoscenti were all eyes and ears, too. Something for everyone.
Edit: the show also proved beyond a doubt the relativity of time. I think it might have been the shortest two hours I’ve ever experienced.
