What do you use for a case? I have an old Highland pipe case but my bellows won’t fit into it. New bellows do not compress much. Even forced down, it is over 6" tall; width is nearly the same. Is a soft sided case ok or would you recommend something hard for humidity control?

I bought the “Revolution” from CelticWorks - delivery was just a few days and to store my pipes (1/2 set) I have to remove the bass drone thingme and the bellows - lots of room left over
seth gallegher has a gig bag which is awesome for half sets. everything goes in it as long as you are ready to break the drones down. it would not prevent your pipes from being sat on. but it is so small you can keep it slung over your shoulder. small enought to count as your “personal item” on a flight. 75$.
I use a double shotgun case - 51" x 13" x 4". I don’t like to break down my set. Like all gun cases, it is only 4"deep, which really is too tight for a full set. The bellows are just a tad too big, and I always have to force the case closed.
I am not particularly handy myself, but there is a place that sells all the obscure bits and pieces for building your own ATA cases (they supply all the pros): http://www.tchweb.com
I went with I-Beam custom music cases. I traced my pipes, picked a color, and in a couple weeks I had a custom fitted case that allows my to put in my full set plus supplies without having to take apart the drones or regs. (just make sure you trace it with slides fully extended, and you include all desired compartments on the sketch). it is perfect (hand-in-glove padded) protection and only cost $130.
