Penny-chanter practice set for sale

Made in 2003. Chanter is black delrin for the traditional look with c-key. Includes the original reed, which is playing fine but a little wobbly in the low notes; must be the dramatic change in weather every 10 minutes where I live. Upper octave in perfect tune. Plays up to high C# easily. A few scratches on the windcap, but no major flaws. This is the most versatile chanter I have ever played and play it I did! All the way across America.

Bellows are airtight. Unfinished poplar(?) wood and real leather. Leather is glued and tacked, one tack has fallen out but will not cause a problem; they were mainly aesthetic.

The original vinyl bag has a hole for drones and the neck is a bit short for most people, so here’s what I’ll do: include vinyl and plans to make a new bag, all you need is glue and scissors. Either way I’ll include the old bag which is glued and stitched for extra airtightness. Blowpipe, airhose, chanter stock included and in fine shape.

FAQs

This is not a home-built set. It was made by David Daye and has his name stamped on it.

By wobbly I mean that the bottom D gurgles and it takes very little pressure to jump the octave while playing the lowest notes (humidity problems, I think), but it is all in tune.

The bellows come from David Daye as well and are as efficient and leak free as my other two sets of “real” bellows.

I’m selling it because I can’t play three sets at once and I wouldn’t mind the extra cash

About how much money did you have in mind? I know nothing of pipes so can’t make a suggestion, but I might be interested in this set anyways.

Sounds like the bridle is just a little too tight. (Do Daye reeds have bridles?)

Hey Kysh - This might be just what you were looking for.

Yup.
