According to the as-of-today new and improved face of MSN, I am informed that “You are using an outdated browser. Please upgrade to the latest version for the best MSN experience.” The message isn’t from a popup, but a line of text at the top of the MSN main page, which is displaying some sort of default list of articles rather than a shiny webpage. I’m using Google Chrome, so I don’t know what the heck is up.
Not that I’m proud to admit that MSN (which today informs me that a study says that men prefer younger women, and asks hard questions such as are we overdoing the pumpkin spice thing) is my go-to, but I’m used to it. What’s a Redmond?
Ah, I see you altered your OP… so this is actually a serious question? Sorry nano! Well, I just tried MSN with chrome (v35) and didn’t get such a message, so I can’t really tell. Is your browser actually up to date?
Anyway, even with a slightly outdated browser you should be able to access the usual services of MSN. Their praised IE is still lagging far behind modern standards.
MSN says not. How can this be? I don’t recall ever being notified by Chrome itself that my browser needs an update. I seem to be accessing everything else (C&F, Google and its articles) just fine.
Weird, I thought it updates automatically in the background on windows systems. On linux you have to update manually though (I just checked and realised my chrome actually is out of date! ). Which version is yours (click “About Google Chrome” in the menu)?
…sez my version is “Version 34.0.1847.116 m”. Probably is outdated, then. Will try a relaunch.
Yep, now it’s updated to “Version 37.0.2062.124 m”. And the MSN page seems to be showing properly at this time. It’s a very different format from before, so I can’t be sure, but I’ll go with it. The articles are loading and displaying well now, anyway.
Thanks again for your help, megapop! Much appreciated.
It does, if/when you restart the browser. If like me you tend to leave a browser window open for days at a time, then you keep an eye on the little red bars (menu icon) at the upper right to tell you there’s a pending update. As for MSN, it looks OK … well, normal … in my currently antique version of Chrome (37.0.2062.120 m).
That’s it. Yeah, maybe they’re normally black not green, I don’t remember. And I’m sure not going to find out for your sake. They’re glowing blood red at the moment, and I’ve never felt more alive.
