I’ve never tried sake, any fans here? Is it the super potent drink that you see in the movies or is it really just wine made from rice???
i like it very much, it’s not super potent, it is actually wine made from rice (not from her, from the grain), i think the strength is somewhere around 12%by volume, but i’m not sure. anyway, gotta try it. ![]()
There are varieties of sake that are meant to be drunk chilled (esp. in summer) and are called hiya-zake. Atsukan or heated sake is even served out of leathery bottles made of dried squid, but the effect is, in a word, funky.
Living in Akita Prefecture was sake heaven due to the very high quality of rice varieties grown there; all sorts of fine local brews going back centuries could be got. I recall a chilled sake that was as elegant as an ultra-light French white wine might be. Sake also comes in dry, semi-dry, and sweet forms, and to add to the confusion you have “white” and “red” categories, the white being colorless and the red being somewhat tawny.
(edited because I cnat speel or punctuate?)
By the way, steer clear of Gekkeikan. It is pure swill and not even fit to cook with.
Thanks for the info… wonder if the LCBO has any, I’ve never checked.
At The Chiff and Fipple Poststructural PUB and you are talking about Sake? Talk about OT.
Hey… we had a whistling Saki pot… it was interesting to say the least.
