I got my publisher’s proofs for the book today! Hard back cover, paperback cover and the innards! YAY! Now I get to work 20 hour days again!

Congratulations – that’s awesome!
It sounds great Anna, but I’m puzzled. When I got my publisher’s proofs, for my first book, the *very hard work was virtually done (bar a little more proof reading, obviously, but not starting, as you seem to suggest). Why will you still be working 20 hour days? Or were you making a joke?

Steve, I have an illustrator across the state, two editors fifty miles away, and a proofreader in Nashville! We’re doing this e-mail and the cover design, I HATE it! So that’s a lot of e-mail going back and forth, and on a quick read through, I found so much stuff it wasn’t funny! I’m pouting and sulkig and fuming, because I can’t send them a nasty letter, yet! I’d been away from the MS for so long, I could see it for a change. This is a real book, IBSN number, Library of Ccongress, etc…and it’s on SOMEBODY ESLE’s money! The Arts Council of the State of South Dakota! I’m getting ready to do a show in Sioux Falls with my illustrator! All I have to do is put their crummy logo on the frontspiece!

My own book (and my second - on the way) are considered ‘real’ too, by the large and well known International academic publisher that bought them! It’s a great feeling isn’t? What’s it about (your book)?
By the way I simply hated the cover of my first book and e-mailed the so-called graphic designer that was pay a ludicrous some of money to ‘dream it up’! He never forgave me for my honesty, and I think my publisher wanted to believe they were right to choose that designer, too! Best to hold your fire, maybe.
