What sort of bait are we using here? I prefer squid - the bluefish go crazy over it! Plus, it makes for very, very attractive breath - the women find it equally irresistable.

I’ve got some great missssspellings of my own name.
My name is Amar
Here are two “variants”
-Mrs. Amas Dranid
-Dr. Rabit (no kidding, I got this last year at the hospital where I used to work could have been Rabbit too, can’t remember)
-Dr. Shtravi (a spoken mistake, not written)
cheers,
Dr. Rabit
(three variants those were!)

I have always thought it was a funny thing, but I can’t take the credit for it. I got it off a list from someone else being a smart eleck about people trying to unsubscribe. Got it years and years ago and have just kept it.
I do wonder where it originally came from…
Kim
I have met maybe two or three people in my life who could pronounce my name upon just looking at it, without needing to be told how to say it.
Most people take several tries and even years–there is still a girl I have known for 4 years who doesn’t say it right. I have stopped bothering to correct her because I don’t want to hurt her feelings. ![]()
My name is Kiirsi (pronounced something like Keer-see). Some interesting and weird variants I’ve been subjected to over the years:
Kirsey
Christy
Kristin
Kisri
Kirsti
Kirstin
Kibie
Kiibey
Kivisi
I have an uncle named Kory Branham. He once got a piece of mail addressed to “Mrs. Korn Barnharn.”

Edit to add: in fact my nickname here came about because my little sister, years ago, couldn’t pronounce my name. She started calling me “Seesee” and it evolved to everyone calling me “Cees.” ![]()

LOL, Kim. Reminds me of my repeated unsuccessful attempts to unsubscribe from Compuserve. The only way I managed to shake them off was by cancelling my bank standing order. Just as well I wasn’t paying by direct debit or I’d probably still be caught in their cold dead hands.
I had the same experience with them years ago. Most recent similar experience is with Direct TV, who even after 6 months of snail mails and phone calls is still trying to bill me. And I never even had any kind of “annual agreement” with them or anything because I purchased the receivers and dish at WalMart and installed them myself.

I know someone by that name too, the name’s from Finnland, right?

My name? Actually my parents made it up out of their names (Kevin and Kristi), but my sisters have Scandinavian names, so it’s quite possible it is Finnish sounding. That’s cool that you know someone else named that! I’ve never met or heard of anyone else with the same name. ![]()
I hear ya there Cees. I’m in the same boat as you with the name thing…maybe worse. The only people that can pronounce and/or spell my name correctly are the knowledgeable Cristians or the old-school hippy folks from the 70’s.
FYI it’s (you-rye-ya) . . .
Well, actually it’s “kirsi”

For a minute, I couldn’t sign on to the board and almost had a panic attack thinking the servers had gone down again… whew! ::wiping brow::
I’ve also had lots of variations on my name pronunciation, the worst being an intentional one from a grade-school boy. But we won’t go there again.
In case anyone wanted to know, my name is pronounced more like On-dray-uh; I’ll answer to An-dree-uh, but will ignore you if you pronounce it An-dray-uh. ![]()
My hubby’s irritation is when people insist on spelling his name Micheal, when it’s Michael.
Okay, well that was more than anyone wanted to know, I’m sure…

Kerry Bodhran ? Gotta be Eirin-Ougric roots…
BTW, Cees. You say your nickname derived from Seesee, so from now I’ll know better. I used to mentally pronounce your name as Kééss. Cees is a common enough Dutch and Flamish name… I guess it’s a diminutive for a Christian name, but dunno which.
Yes, Zub, I can see where the nickname gets mispronounced. I probably should’ve started spelling it “Sees” way back when, but I liked the look of “Cees” better. ![]()
Ah, Cees–I kind of envy you. You’d think with a moniker like mine I’d end up with a workable nickname but nothing seems to have stuck. Well, “Maggie” worked for some people for a while, but I never liked it and these “friends” were very manipulative. It wasn’t just my name they were trying to change.
Anyway, “Marguerite” came to me third-hand. We called my maternal grandmother Marguerite by the nickname “Rita” while my mother Marguerite was always called “Peggy.” The full-blown version stuck with me and now that I’m “of a certain age,” I think I may be stuck with it.
But sometimes people just call me “Em.” I can live with it. ![]()
M
Mac is usually short for something. Mc is usually the start of something.
My name is Mack–short for nothing, so the dendency is to lengthen it or to make it plural (as in Max). I stopped Jack from calling me that! I also stopped Phill from calling me macadamian, by making a nut out of his name. Several have asked me for my first name, Mr. McKoover. So as you can see, I am no longer sensitive about what insensitive folks want to call me.
My last name is Walsh, which I think is pretty basic as well as fairly common. In fact there are several Beth Walshes in the rural area where I live (another one besides me goes to the same vet and has a cat with a similar name as mine, and they always pull the wrong chart whenever I am there, but I digress). Anyway, it always surprises me the inventive ways people come up with to spell Walsh. Most common is Welsh, which is pretty close and the origin of the name, but I also have seen
Welch
Walshe
Walsch
Walsche
Walstch
Waltsch
(I haven’t gotten Waltz yet, but I have a feeling that may be next).
