George Bush Sr. just awarded Ted Kennedy, one of the most outspoken opponents of the war against the people of Iraq, his annual prize for Outstanding Public Service. I think the following excerpt from George Bush Sr’s memoirs explains why.
In his memoirs, “A World Transformed,” written five years ago, George Bush, Senior, wrote the following to explain why he didn’t go after Saddam Hussein at the end of the Gulf War. “Trying to eliminate Saddam…would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible… We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq… there was no viable “exit strategy” we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations’ mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land.”
Hu… so this board was pleasant and non-political until Chris posted? Yeah right! Open your eyes, political posts have been posted for months now, and some other people are posting random posts to raise their post-count. Makes this thread very acceptable.
Those that don’t heed the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. I have a lot of political commentary but I can sum it up as having the utmost contempt imaginable for Dubya Bush, Rice, Rummy, Ashcroft, Rove, Card. And i have never felt contempt for an American President before in my life, I’ve been concerned, embarrassed, disappointed, but Bush and his isolationist-arrogance is contemptable. I await the next election with the enthusiasm of a child at Christmas.
I don’t mind the religio-political threads too much, though I no longer feel like playing in them. Mud clings. But I am REALLY getting hacked off by the members who seem to think a high post count is some sort of badge of honor or proof of whatever and who post numerous one word and garbage posts just to build up their self-esteem.
After all these years on C&F, I now find myself wondering if I even want to visit.
(sigh) Yeah, I know - I’ve been encouragiing people to pass me ever since Dale started keeping track, but I won’t shut up long enough for them to do it.
And I always thought that playing IRTrad was a political statement of it’s own!
Q: What type of music is to be considered non-political?
Cheers!

Edit:
Hey Sam and Chuck, if the number of posts gets embarrassingly high and you feel like you need to prove that you actually do have a life outside this board. There is a solution. All you need to do is to change your username under the “Registration Information” in your profile and ****, your number of posts are set to zero the rest of your information remains the same.
Who is “they”? And what’s the position? I didn’t see a position taken here. And wouldn’t be fairer to say it is “being used” to point out the inconsistencies in the Republican’s position?
But it’s all right. When Chris said “food for thought” it was just an expression. He didn’t mean you actually had to think.
Thanks for the chuckel Bloom.
I`m woundering; do we play our whistles and flutes on some cloud or some etherial place in the universe or do we play on this planet. I mean how do you seperate what we do from what we are?
Obviously, Junior has given this a lot of thought. His comment yesterday that “the bombings are a sign of the guerrillas’ desperation. The more successful we are on the ground, the more these killers will react” shows he has a fully realistic grasp on the situation…
Its Colonel Crittendon from Hogan’s Heroes! Jolly good, what!
I have nothing against political commentary, but why try to start a political fight in a tinwhistle forum? I’m sure there are better places for it. Of course, if it be the will o’ the people, I will not nay say.
