{Post drastically edited because I was too sleepy to communicate properly when I wrote the original. – Daryl}
Dale,
I just wanted to send you some words of encouragement. I know there have been some rocky moments in here from time to time, but I’m very glad you’ve provided this place of fun, music, and discussion.
I just started playing the flute a few weeks ago, I am having great success because of this site, (well, I think so anyway, don’t ask the dogs or neighbors). I have no other interactive instruction to go by other than the good folks here.
I have been to the “other” site, seems OK, not as active, but OK. Maybe I will ask a stupid question there, (like I do so often here), and see what happens. I know the replies won’t be as funny as well as informative. I am not intimidated at all by the “Big Heads” here, but in general I am not intimidated by anyone and tend to let things go instead of dwelling or flaming, I actually have a life so I don’t have time to actually get involved in alot of jawing to get attention at this time, (except today, I am at work, & God forbid I actually do my JOB).
I am on several forums and am even a moderator on a few technical sites, I am a computer geek as well as flute player, (making me a Super Geek of sorts), and I find this site both informative and amusing. (Go ahead and flame me for saying flute players are Geeks, I can take it, I’m a tough Super Geek).
My secret identity revealed!
I have had that commercial pointed out to me several times…yeah, it’s true, I read technical journals like they were “Bodice Rippers”.
Makes me popular with the Pocket Protector Sector…
Hey Doug, hows your dimpled pipe coming along? Anything new to report?
I think you may be under a slight misapprehension, I don’t think anyone on GC would boo you out for recommending a Tipple flute.
After reading some of the posts that have been cropping up lately on both forums, I get the feeling that people are feeling like they have to “choose” one or the other.
When I started GC and was talking with Dale about it, he came up with the analogy that it’s kind of like a house party. C&F is the house party, lots of people, tons of noise and fun, the occasional arguement. GC is like the back porch. Wander out, look at the stars, a little less crowded and noisy, but still fun.
The signal to noise ratio is less, simply because there are less people, which may account for your “dry” feeling.
I still frequent both boards, as I find a lot of merit in both approaches. (I sold GC to a friend who also posts on both boards a while back.)
I’m frequenting both as well. They both have valuable things to offer. That said, even though there is a lot of OT stuff here, and flamewars. This is still a great site for discussion and advice. Plus some laughs. I’ve no intention of skipping out.
I’ve been feeling a little bad all along about the way I worded the start of this thread. By the time I’d thought it through more carefully, though, it was too late to delete it.
I apologize for appearing to malign your board. That really wasn’t my intent, and I should have been much more careful about what I wrote. I’m very sorry.
As for the impression I got about the beginner’s flute recommendations, this may not be the appropriate place to discuss it.
Thanks for speaking up, and for the gentleness of your correction.
My life seems to be a series of “Duh!!!” moments lately.
This board DOES let you edit old posts. <Resounding forehead slap!>
Anyway, I apologize again to one and all. I’ve edited the original to say more of what I really meant to say and to take out the dumb things I should never have said. Again, my deepest apologies to all I offended.
LOLOL…Daryl, you never even came CLOSE to offending me!
Like I said, I sold the board to a friend a while back, but I still enjoy coming to both places. I’d be interested in the “beginner flute” impression you got, so if you want to PM me that’d be cool. Not a big thing, was just curious.
