OT&Controversial: Just say no

You know, it just came to me…Because this board is hosted in Canada, there’s a decent chance that marijuana may be legalized on this board!

Why is this board hosted in Canada? Just curious.

Wahoo!

Teri

To see the TRUE effects of legalized marihuana (the real spelling), download this free movie: http://www.throttlebox.com/Content/1064.shtml

No, really, though, I am against legalized marijuana.

If that legalization actually happens, few years from now “post-Structural” would become … “Post-Marijuana Whistle Forum”

Just in case you were thinking of coming to Canada to smoke up, my understanding is this legalization will be for medical use only. Of course, with our ‘will-he -won’t- he’
‘which side of the fence is he on now?’ PM, anything could happen!

If they were smart, they’d legalize it and tax the living hell out of it and put that money into education and inner-city programs, then you wouldn’t have so many pot somkers anyhow…

Y’know, I haven’t touched the devil’s weed in many a year - I always figured that working for the Man created sort of a conflict, y’might say.

Now that I’m retired…

Would marijuana make me play better, or would I just think it did?

I hate to go for the obvious but…shouldn’t the topic line for this thread read, “Just say no, eh?”
Mike Burns (an ethnic Canadian)

rolls eyes, shakes head, and then sighs while throwing hands up into the air

If you’ve been close to a regular user you’ll know what it does to things like ambition, incentive, etc. The war cry of the user is “Hey man, no problem”. The negative effects of alcohol abuse are more obvious and immediate, which causes many people (including me) to quit or cut back. Regular mj users are unaware that their lives are being wasted.

There are medical uses, though. I’m also for the medicinal use of heroin, including prescribing it under doctor supervision to those who admit to being addicts. This step has greatly reduced the market for steet drugs in the UK. (Didn’t the 30’s teach us that prohibition doesn’t work?) This subject could use its own forum.

Ok Mike…just what IS
‘an ethnic Canadian’ from Cleveland? eh?

Hey, I’m a Canadian too! It cost me $50.00 ($35.00 US) and 18 years of living in Brampton to get that. I did get a free bible out of it, though, which is cool.

18 years of living in Brampton? You must REALLY appreciate your citizenship…

Actually, our biggest stumbling block to legalization (for medical purposes) is the fact that the U.S. government won’t like it and will let us know pretty quick. I don’t think we have a great chance of being the leader in this regard.
Dale is stirring things up a little today, isn’t he?

As a child of the 60’s I had no problem with this subject until it was brought close to home. I now can tell you more about drug addiction, prescribed narcotics, illegal narcotics, methadone managment, talk the lingo, NA, Naranon, etc.etc. than I ever wanted to know. All because of my child, now, for today, an addict in recovery. It started with good old weed.

For medicinal use, I see no difference in any narcotic, if it has a legitimate use and can be properly dispensed as a controlled substance by ethical medical professionals.I know too many who became addicts at the hands of their Dr.

I dont know about all this technical stuff, but like…you know.. when you like inhale then like stare at your hand really deep…like…you can like…hear the whole universe…and like, it all…makes so much sense…like WHOA…ya know?

You got some Doritos or something, man?

Actually, personally I never understood the allure of canabis.

Much better to obsess over VSB vs. SB, I suppose, but perhaps just as expensive.

People tend to get very emotional about this subject, but the fact is that not everyone who takes an occasional drink becomes an alcoholic, and not everyone who smokes a little weed here and there becomes an addict, or even a regular user of marijuana.

Here’s a link to a provocative article on an unexpected effect of the U.S.'s war on drugs:

Lizzie,
Over the past few years we’ve hear in the news about “ethnic” Serbs, Croats, Albanians, etc. So, one day it dawned on me that three of my grandparents were born in Canada and came to the US as adults. (The fourth GP was born in Ireland) So, in the definition that was used in the Balkans, I am ethnically Canadian. Think of Mexicans who immigrate to the USA. After two generations they are considered by most Americans as Mexican-Americans. The difference with Canadian-Americans is that we blend in with mainstream Americans. We don’t look like Asians, Central Americans or East Indians. People assume that we are “ethnic Americans”. Well, I’m here to proclaim I’m polite and I’m an Ethnic Canadian!

Some do, though.
