Tony, I see you live in the east bay. I live in the south bay. Where can I find sessions in the bay area? I’m new to trad playing, have only been taking whistle lessons for a couple of months. I’d love to go somewhere and just listen.

Hi Darvis, I’ll jump in with a few suggestions, if you and Tony don’t mind! Here are a few websites with lists of sessions in the Bay Area:

http://www.sirenmedia.com/music/sessions.htm

http://www.sfcelticmusic.com/sessions.htm

I’d suggest calling any of these places before you go, the only one I can vouch for as occurring on a regular basis is at the Plough and Stars in San Francisco. Tony probably has better information than I do.

I’d also suggest checking out a slow session:

It’s a great way to get your feet wet.

Thanks Gogo, this is just what I needed!

You have to order by phone…Pat is not cyber-enabled and as such is my idol. He doesn’t ask for money until the whistle is ready and he will call you when it is. He is a wonderful, pleasant guy and makes one heckuva tooter. As far as I know, Pat’s still taking orders…God help the price of O’Riordans when he decides to retire…they’re gonna replace the Krugerrand as legal tender.
