I have watched these whistles on ebay all week with the intention of bidding. They are now at $930 which is way too high for me. I am thinking that maybe I will put my order in for an Abell. I have heard that these whistles are similiar in quality. Any thoughts anyone can offer on the comparison of O’Riordan and Abell? 
Yes, I dropped out on that set earlier this week. It’s the second set sold by that seller in the last ten days.
These are really very different whistles with totally different playing characteristics. Kind of like Copeland versus Goldie, IYKWIM. Both are very well made instruments. The designs concepts are very different. The O’Riordan is very open the Abell less so, IMO. Personally, I do not favor the Abell (but they are very nice whistles). I love the O’Riordan’s sound and dynamics. It’s really just a matter of tastes and preferences. I’ve known a few people that just can’t handle the O’Riordan. Never heard anyone say that about the Abell. You should really play each before buying either and buy the one that best meets your needs and preferences.

I haven’t had the chance to play either one but the truth is I can barely play (just starting to learn) Most people wouldn’t spend as much on a whistle at my stage of learning but I am getting old and figure I might as well buy what I like even if I can’t play well enough to justify it. I appreciate fine craftsmanship and frankly would enjoy the whistles if I couldn’t play at all. I have a Busman D in blackwood that I really like and an aluminum narrow bore Burke D. Easy playability is more important to me than any particular sound at this stage. That’s why I have bought so many whistles so early. Though I have lurked about on Chiff & Fipple for a few years I have only started recently to make a real effort to learn to play. 
Whistles are now at $1125 
The Burke should have spoiled you then.
I’ve said this before. The Busman and Burke are both very good whistles. You can buy a different whistle but not necessarily a better whistle. You might like and Abell.
I expect they will go higher.

I’ve gathered quite a collection of Pat’s whistles over the years, but I believe this set at $1,525 is the highest price I’ve seen, and a set that sold for $600 a few years back being the lowest. Amazing.
Is there a link to the auction - even if it has closed? I have a friend who has several O’Riordans and want to make sure he realizes his potential for retirement has now increased.
And what’s up with this? At least they offer free shipping…
