I so hate to have to sell this set, but I’ve had to put my O’Riordan D/C set on eBay. As you likely know, he has closed his waiting list, so if you’ve wanted one, this is an opportunity to get one. Here is the text from my ad:
Pat O’Riordan D/C Concert Pennywhistle - Irish Whistle set. African Blackwood with Brass fittings and rings. Very good used condition; made in 2001. Tunable. Wonderful clear, sweet sound, easy to play. Wide bore makes for a large, warm tone and easy pitch bending. Very good scale. Pat O’Riordan is one of the finest and most respected makers in the Whistle community and his instruments are played by many well known musicians, including Joannie Madden. (Cherish the Ladies) He has closed his waiting list and is taking no new orders, so this may be one of your last chances to aquire one of these legendary D/C sets. I really hate to sell these, but I need the money for my last semester at school.
I had a lovely O’riordan concert C in Blackwood very nice sounding whistle and really nice workmanship, C was’nt really my key so I sold it for $ 375 i thought it was a great deal as I only paid $ 300, I even felt a bit guilty, but to pay $ 1300 + would indicate that O’riordans really do have a mythical status for some, they do play well and are worth what Pat charges or charged pre closing his list, BUT $1300
Well, I am going to hold on to my D/C set, although it probably wouldn’t fetch as much, though, since it doesn’t have those little shamrocks… unless I put them on myself, hmmmmmm…
Pat never stopped making whistles - just closed his books to help ease his four year + back-log. There is no telling if after that’s all caught up (which I imagine would be sometime soon) if he’ll open for regular orders again.
