As I’ve mentioned elsewhere in these pages, eBay suspended bidding on all my listed items because of an attempted hack on my account–after I changed my password at their request, eBay reinstated the bidding, but back to day one, with no bid history. This afternoon I received a message from eBay stating “…if there were any bidders on the items listed above [all my items] we have emailed each of them a copy of the following letter: You recently had placed a bid on item number ___ which had been removed by eBay. After review of this listing, we have found that it was removed in error. As a result we have informed the seller that they may relist their item if they wish to do so…We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.” I’m wondering if those of you who bid on the O’Riordan whistle set actually received such a letter from eBay–can you let me know? (I’ll fax a copy of their letter to anyone who’s interested).
Although this contretemps is entirely eBay’s doing, I feel I my reputation has been sullied and I should defend it. I’m a retired physician who spends much of his time playing Celtic music on flute, whistle, and concertina.. My references are my son-in-law, Jean-Michel Veillon, John Williams, Larry Nugent, Liz Carroll, and several other Chicago area musicians–you can ask any of them about my probity. (I’ll provide the contact information if you write to me).
It’s truly remarkable that eBay has the power not only to cancel many hundreds of dollars in bids without recourse, but to seriously damage somone’s reputation without prior advice or discussion–I first learned that the bidding had been suspended from a bidder, not from eBay.

But you’re right. . . the way eBay did it, it did sound like you’d just been indicted or something so they took away your account.
I do wish I’d clicked “View Seller’s Other Items” before everything was suspended, though, because I would have liked to see how high the bids were getting on those 3-year-olds you were selling in addition to whistles and a flute.

Sorry Dick if you found my joke offensive. I assume you know how valuable O’Riordans are on the open market and the series of events was inviting jibes.
Really, just do what you did, post the facts and you’ll get along fine around here. We are a rather mischievous lot around here and we tend to take the mickey at every opportunity.

(Sigh) I think the universe has just decided that I’m never going to own an O’Riordan.
I got a yearly bonus check which would adequately cover these whistles, but instead, it looks like I’m going to have to spend the money on other things instead. grr! Cruel fate!
I decided a long time ago that I would never own an O’Riordan. There will always be things I need more for the kind of money they are going for. But there are other whistles.

Lol, probably not for me for a while, unfortunately. My son has gotten my bad genes…his eyes have started crossing (same as mine did as a toddler) so surgery looks likely there. And I’ve ended up with my own medical issues recently.
I’m just glad I got my Greenwood when I did. It’s satisfying enough that though the O’Riordan thing is a thorn in my side, I’m not as bothered by it as I once may have been.
