it was just on tellybox again there, so will probably be a wee while before they upload it to t’interweb.
They have the standard:
Something went wrong
There seems to be a problem playing this video - please try again…
Download information
Sorry, Ceird An Cheoil is no longer available. Programmes are available for seven days after broadcast.
… message, so I’d imagine it’ll be like this for a few hours or however long it takes their web person to “change the reel” as it were (from Sam’s flute episode, to Mícheál’s concertina episode).
I can not download the flute documentary from youtube. Is it copy-protected even on youtube? Or would one of the lucky downloaders send it to me by using yousendit.com or just by email?
You download and install Real player 11. Then when you play a YouTube video a small box opens at the top of the video and Real Player asks if you wish to “download ths video”. You click on the box and the video is downloaded
Yippie! I downloaded the files with Realplayer 11 and then converted them to mp4 with iSquint. And now they are in my iTunes library. very cool, thanks Steampacket
My brother Ruadhraí was phoning me last night to tell me they had the humble bodhrán episode on Ceird an Cheoil on BBC 2 last night, but sure of course I forgot all about it, as I had ones in visiting.
OK, thanks Steampacket, did that, but I don’t get any reference to Real player when I’m playing a Youtube video-if I right click it, it just gives me Adobe Flash player settings. I have the Real Player set to show the box for the downloading option, but it doesn’t seem to work on Youtube. I also set my preference for Real Player to be my default media player. I even tried disabling the Adobe Flash player, but then I just got nothing-no video at all on Youtube.
Sure would like to get the Sam Murray flute series downloaded (or recorded) so I can watch them when I want to. Maybe there is a problem because I’m on a 56K dial-up connection, and not high-speed?
A 56k dial up shouldn’t be a problem other than that it’ll take a fair while to download. On a Mac or a PC it should be enough to have RP 11 installed. Even if a “Download this video?” tag doesn’t appear on the right hand top corner of the youtube video you should have the video appear in the Real Player download and recording manager window. The tag seems only to appear for a few seconds in the beginning. If so then it’s just to click the appropiate “download” button in the Real Player download and recording manager window, or chose to delete if you wish. Have you looked in the Real Player download and recording manager window to see if anything’s there? On my PC at work I find a video I want then activate the Real Player program and the “Download this video” tag appears. On my Mac at home this happens automatically.
All right, got it now, thanks again Steampacket! What I didn’t understand and what I found on my computer anyway, is that I need to open Real Player first, then find the address bar window to copy and paste the link to the video, and then when it opens, the little download window eventally opens to ask if I want to download the video, but on dial-up it takes sometimes about a minute for it to respond. Since then, I’ve set it to pop up when I mouse over a video, and then it works right away.
I had no idea what the Real Player recording and download manager window was, and couldn’t find it in the top lists for file, help and such, but it opens once the video is downloading. Yes, a little confusing, but like most things on the computer, they become attainable with a little help and perserverence, and for this ability to download the videos, it’s certainly worth it. Thanks also to Real Player for making this work!
So, flute on!, and long live Sam Murray! My best to him and his family, his flutemaking, and all who play his flutes!
