Once

Has anybody else seen the Irish movie “Once”? It was released early last year, I believe, but I just finished watching it.

It’s a welcome change from the usual Hollywood crap, with real people and none of the usual fakery.

It also showcases some beautiful music the co-stars wrote. I highly recommend it to anyone, but especially those of us who play and love music.

It’s a wonderful film and the music is surprisingly strong.

My family and I watched “Once” over the holidays. It’s one of the best movies I have seen lately. Very real (not Hollywood), and very moving. The music is excellent.

The film is rated R in the US for frequent use of the f-bomb, but I let my children (11 and 14) watch too. They say they got pretty used to hearing language like that living in Glasgow for a year. The film takes place in Dublin. There is no violence or anything physically scary. I highly recommend the film!

Thanks for this! I’ll put it in my Netflix queue!

Will look out for it. Ta for the heads up.

Yeah. I got two DVD’s for Xmas - ‘Once’ and ‘Red Road’.
I recommend both. ‘Once’ is very sweet and the performances are great.
As others have noted, the music is actually pretty good too. ‘Red Road’ is
a different kettle of fish, though no less entertaining. A dark, brooding
mystery set in Glasgow, with all the images of decay in the modern urban
housing scheme (housing projects to youse Merkins..). Interestingly, it has
English sub-titles! All I can say is lang may yer lum reek!

Excellent, moving, real, movie!

I bought the muisc disk when it first came out ( approx. 1 1/2 ago), and LOVED it. So, to see it sung on the film was a thrill.

Highly recommended!!

P.S. If you like Hansard, check out Damien Rice. Another Irishman, but the music is, in my opinion, even better. Amazingly immotive!
