Hey everyone!
I am from argentina and I have just seen this film “The boys and girl from County Clare” and I wonder if you know more movies like this one, movies with a plot related to music.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome, Jimmyreturns!
Though the movie itself is not about the Music, the soundtrack of “The Secret of Roan Inish” is a wonderful source.
better’n “the quiet man” ![]()
The soundtrack to “Long Journey Home” has some nice music, too.
G’day there Jimmy.
"Songcatcher’’ is a good film…not Irish, but the story of a Music collector in the Apalachins.
I’ll also give “Roan Inish” the thumbs up…great Music in this film…I have it and have seen it many times.
And also agree with Denny on “The Quiet Man”…I like corny movies but this is just more than a Koala can bear
..
I got this movie out of our public library. The movie is called “Once”. I never heard of it and I got it based strictly on the DVD cover and it was a sweet movie. The Simpsons cartoon even parodied the movie.
Not ITM, but I really enjoyed The Commitments.
Seamus Egan’s soundtrack for The Brothers McMullin is pretty good.
Thanks a lot!
Now I have at least a small list of movies.
If somebody knows others, feel free to add!
Not for the music - I can’t recall the music - but it struck me as a very good film. My favourite part was the car chase along the narrow Irish roads - a stark contrast to car chases in American films. And it has Cyril Cusack and Niall Tobin.
Waking Ned (or Waking Ned Devine). It’s not about music, but it’s extremely funny, with a good soundtrack including singing & whistle playing by Liam Ó Maonlaí.
I can third Roan Inish (even if it should be “Inis Róin”!), because the entire plot is based on the sean-nós song “An Mhaighdean Mhara” (which also happens to be my party piece!).
Some good Irish language in that film as well, for all the producers couldn’t be bothered to translate it in the subtitles (I’m happy to do so, if anyone’s curious).
