On eBAY: Kirk Lynch Half Set in D + spare KQ chanter

I’d sell the spare K&Q separately. Why marry it with a Lynch set?

I imply no sense of disrespect for either pipemaker. Its just that the two makers work to achieve two entirely different soundscapes and I cannot see the K&Q set balancing with the drones which are designed and balanced to go with a Lynch chanter.

The collection might bring more money if parts sold separately.

Also, might be useful to post the age of both instruments. Does the seller know what stage in the development of K&Q chanters this particular instrument would represent?

Your ad isnt showing as it should because you spelled uilleann incorrectly on it (only 1 “n” in the title)

The K&Q chanter and chanter-top appear in the photo to be different colours - the chanter-top is a lighter colour than the rest. Is it the original chanter top? Also, I can only see 2 keys in the photo - G# and C. Are there more keys?

I do wish the Seller would provide more information on the vintages of both instruments, currently reeded status, ect.

Ridiculously high starting price, anybody?

According to Kirk Lynch’s website, a new half-set runs $2750, so even with the K&Q chanter thrown in, the starting price does seem quite optimistic.

No E

I don’t think so. A Lynch 1/2 set with a wooden chanter top is nearly $2,875 (as per his website). That would value the K&Q chanter, with wooden chanter-top and 2 keys, at $1,625.

That looks to be an older model lynch chanter, it might be good to call Kirk about it first if you are interested. He has revised his bore over the years.

Jeff

It looks like an older model K&Q chanter to me though the site says 2000-2001. It could be a “good buy,” and probably is, but I’d be aware of the fact that just one or two of the older ones (1980’s) out there may be a little difficult to reed, and especially if you were to apply current BK reedmaking methods and philosophy to attempt the reed.

They may be slightly more difficult to reed, but some of the older Quinns are quite lovely in terms of Timbre.

Dionys

I might add that the earlier Lynch’s are quite sweet as well! My teacher has two of those from around the same time, and they are superb. I doubt anyone would go wrong with this combo, although the price is a wee bit high… Maybe he’ll dicker a bit.

Any idea why the same item seems to have appeared from a seller in China? Price seems a bit more reasonable  if only I had some Renminbi handy …

Jim

Where is it advertised?

Sorry! Link failed me … trying again

hmm, seller is a member since Jan 04, 2006…

Scam? (One would assume so from the very start, of course… given the mysterious listing of an identically described item under a different seller name…) Then again, under payment methods:

“Payment methods accepted
There are no available payment methods in your country. Please do not bid on this item.”

Weird.

The China-based seller is suspicious - no previous sales. The US-based seller (i.e. the first auction) looks legit.

Does anyone know the US-based seller?

Yes PJ, I meant that the Chinese sale looked suspicious; I didn’t mean to cast any doubt on the US seller/sale. Thanks for pointing that out.

One should always verify that the seller is legit. On eBAY, e-mail contact with the seller would start that; phone contact would be even better.

It has happened before - people have lifted auction info and photos and listed fraudulent auctions on eBAY - with no success, I hope.

I just reported this to Ebay. It will take some time for them to respond. How about a little fun in the meantime? I am thinking of putting in an opening bid of £50,000, anyone want to top that?
