All the best,
CJ

CJ you should start offering your bellow kits on ebay, I know I would buy one…

Hi there,
If you are interested in purchasing a bellows kit, you can also purchase directly from me or my website as I only sell a few items on ebay. Thank you for your feedback as well.

All the best,
CJ

CJ,

What tools would I need to build one of your kits and what sort of glue for to glue the leather to the clappers?

Do you need to season the laether? I’ll be in the market for a new bellows shortly and would like to have a crack at doing my own, but a kit would be a good start.

Cheers,

DavidG

Hi David,
All of the materials (contact cement, thread, etc.) and some tools (needle, sandpaper, etc.) that is required for making the bellows, I supply with my kit. The only tools required outside of what I supply is a hammer, robertson screw driver, drill and scissors. I do include a leather conditioner which will assist in maintaining an air tight seal as well as preventing drying over the years. Here is a detailed list of what I supply with my kit:

1 - 3.5 oz leather gusset
2 - finished oak cheeks
1 - brass blowpipe connector assembly
1 - leather blowpipe connector seal
70 - brass upholstery tacks
1 - check valve assembly, leather
1 - waxed cord
1 - 24" webbing arm strap with quick connect buckle
1 - 48" webbing waist strap with quick connect buckle
1 - leather covered elbow pad assembly
1 - leather hinge with brass supports
2 - 1" brass countersink screws
6 - brass countersink washers
4 - 1/2" brass screws
2- waist belt supports, leather
1 - leather treatment, package
1 - 10 feet of heavy nylon thread
1 - heavy gauge needle
1 - thimble, finger protector
1 - sand paper square
1 - contact cement, container
1 - assembly instructions, general

If I can be of more help, please let me know.
All the best,
CJ

I have decided to lower my bellows kit price to $135 to give an even greater dollar advantage to those who wish to make one themselves.

All the best,
CJ

Wow, good on you!

CJ,

Another great initiative. I know a few people who would like to take up the UPs but find it cost prohibitive. I’ll be recommending your bellows kit to them as a possibility for significantly reducing the cost of a first set.

And remember, a bellows is not just for Christmas!!

there’s also the feeling of accomplishment that comes with making something yourself (even from a kit), makes it feel more like it’s really your “own” - if you know what I mean.

Jeff

Does the kit include assembly instructions? Also, can the tan leather waist strap pictured be substituted for one in black? And finally, could the wood paddles be supplied un-finished so that they might be stained a darker color prior to assembly?
Thanks, Dave.

Those bellows would fit in cases with a smaller height, too. Makes those double shotgun cases a good solution.

…yes, and a little bit more.

Hi Dave (illwinds),
As Joseph mentioned (cheers Joseph) my do-it-yourself bellows kit does come with assembly intructions but it does not come with a tan leather waist belt… the picture at the start of this thread is for a completed bellows I currently have for sale on ebay. I provide a 1" nylon webbing waist belt with a quick connect buckle with my kit. As for accommodating your request to provide cheeks in an unfinished condition so that you could stain them darker, no problem at all. I like to remain flexible with my products so that I can meet customers individual tastes…

Anima… I agree with your hands on philosophy… I for one love to make things. My home is proof of this… I think the TV is about the only thing not handmade by myself

PJ of no relation  , thank you for your feedback and support.

Cheers all,
CJ

Per popular demand, I have posted my bellows kit on ebay.
