Mawkish…no doubt. But crap? Maybe I just have an unusual affinity for romantic tragedy.
As for Darryl Hannah…no, they never did. But there was one year in which, at least a couple times a week, someone would say I looked like Finola Hughes. Then our hair diverged. I’d rather look like an assassin anyway.

To be honest though,I do find Lloyd Webber a bit tiresome..
For me,the height of Romantic tragedy has gotta be Madam Butterfly. A very simple and common theme throught the history of music and the basis of many fine songs from many traditions.Puccinis handling of the case is beyond my power of description. I just love it.'nuff said.
The bould Lloyd Webber is a big fan as well judging by the amount of tunes he has borrowed from Puccinni.
I had no idea who Finola Hughes was so I did a Google and I don’t see a resemblance but I do be supposing to meself that one would have to see her in action to notice it.
Alas,I have never seen any of the movies or T.V. shows listed in her Home page bio.but I am prepared to take your word for it.
Funny how things shoot into your head from time to time;as I type away here ,the last paragraph of D.H.Lawrences "The Virgin and the Gypsy " came to mind. When I was a lot younger,that was the most heartbreaking few words I had ever read.
Enough..it’s after Midnight here in England and one of us is up at five o’clock in the morning.

I too love Madama Butterfly, as well as Tosca and Turnadot (all by Puccini). The first two are the ultimate in romantic tragedy, but for some reason (I believe I read somewhere that Puccini died before he finished it, and so someone else wrote the ending), Turnadot actually has a HAPPY ending. Madama Butterfly has some of the most beautiful arias for a Soprano that I know of, and the other two, although having some beautiful ones as well, have a few that are great for a Tenor. Their beauty and grandeur are exceeded by few.
Sorry to go on…I was trained in voice for quite some time and I had a dream of becoming a famous Operatic Soprano 
Obviously, years and ten kids later, it didn’t happen the way I thought it would 
::Twilight Zone music swells and grows:: Izz, this is getting more than a tad odd… I would have loved to have been in opera, but my voice wasn’t quite right so I was going for musical theatre instead. Obviously, years and two kids later, it didn’t happen the way I thought it would.
My grandmother was a professional opera singer, though. She did a gorgeous Aida.

You ARE my long lost twin!!! I also did a lot of musical theatre (my favorite was playing Pitti Sing in the Mikado). I’m not sure if I would have been able to sing Opera or not, because my training was more classical. But I would have loved to have been the Principessa Turnadot.
Isn’t it funny how we have these goals and dreams that we set before ourselves when we are younger (note I didn’t say YOUNG for I refuse to think that I’m OLD ), and then when we look back we didn’t quite accomplish what we thought we would. There is a certain amount of bittersweetness to that…I wouldn’t change where I am for anything in the world, but I still would have liked to been called Principessa just once

But yes, I know what you mean-- there is a certain bittersweet quality to past dreams. But I’m a believer in that no matter how twisty-turny a path may get, we always end up precisely where we were meant to be.
