O'Carolan's Tunes in CD

Dear All,

Looking for a compilation of O’Carolan’s tunes in one or more CDs, played by single or multiple instruments.

Mainly, I’d just wanna get a feel of his music. MIDI files don’t do his tunes any justice.

Thanks =], help much appreciated.

The Legacy of Turlough O’Carolan is a good disk containing a good selection of tunes played by a variety of instruments.

If you prefer a harp Patrick Ball has a good album.

One more, Joemy Wilson put out an album years ago that I’m fond of, mainly hammer dulcimer with a mix of other instruments.

Hmm, now I’m tempted to buy more cds.

(I’ve tried to embed links in this post, sorry if it didn’t work I haven’t tried that yet.)

whoops, one more.

The (sadly) late Derek Bell recorded recorded an album in 1975 which is wonderful.

‘The Carolan albums’ by Maire Ni Chathasaigh(harp)and Chris Newman(guitar)is a c.d compilation of two albums by this duo,previously available on tape.It features 24 tracks,inc. most of Carolan’s best known pieces.Maire is a brilliant harpist and Chris is a fine accompanist-i think his ‘jazz’ background is audible,but doesn’t make this album come across as some sort of ‘crossover project’,such as Jacques Loussier’s Bach albums,for example.Nice music to relax to.
