Wow, what a story. When the teacher showed the one he made, I think I would have cried at that. I cry at everything. I would like to hear a hymn on one of those really big clay ocarinas in a church with good acoustics.
I can’t imagine how our lives would have been different if we would have had the internet when we were kids although I have to agree with you, I don’t think we would have had the words to search.
The ocarina the teacher showed me was about the size of a melon, which was humongous to me at that time (I had only seen clay whistles up to that point).
Now, here are photos of ocarinas that truly qualify - I’d love to hear these in a big old echo -y cave:
Until I opened those links, the largest ocarina I had seen was the size of a grapefruit. They should have posted audio too. I liked John Langley’s double ocarina. I want one.
I watched the video at his website, that’s what made me want one. I would have like to have heard an audio of those great big giant ocarinas. Is there a audio clip of those? I would think they sound like whales.
That was beautiful. I liked that deep bass tones of that ocarina. Is that a big ocarina or is Mr. Pan a small man? Does he sell those? I am just wishing but that’s the best 10 hole ocarina that I’ve heard.
