Geeze Peter, you of all people I expected to be able to get the bore in focus, rather than your hand

It was the pic with the auction, nothing to do with me

I know, I’m just having a little Christmas fun with you my friend.

There’s this quote in the Chris Langan book. Some of the lads were going on about how great a set of pipes looked. Chris said: ‘yes, but I wonder how it looks on the inside’.

I ain’t sayin’ nuthin’…

Has anybody tried the new three-piece rover whistle from O Brien? It seems to be the only one he’s making now, on the website.
C is my key for whistles.

It’s my New Year’s resolution Tommy, I’m making it early.

How does it play?

–James

James asked “How does it play?”

I’ll try my best to describe it. Very responsive, slight chiff, medium volume, light push required to reach higher octave, feels very light in hands. If you’ve ever played his other whistles made from metals, it feels similiar but with a little more breathy sound for this model.

Thanks.

I’ve two of his metal whistles (his 3-piece, and also his narrow bore brass), and they are both quite good.

I have a 5 piece (one head set) and a Rover of his (with its own head), and all of them play wonderfully. One of the heads is very quiet with a ton of resistance, the other is open and quite lovely even though it has more volume.

Of course, I also have a very old one of David’s whistles, and old and rough as it is (it was the first one he sold) it’s still one solid whistle. I can’t see any whistle of his not being a great bargain for the price.

Sometime soon I need to get my hands on the Narrow Bore and give it a whirl, but alas…tis the season to be broke.
