cool.

ain’t it kewl?

I think I’ve heard them play in Copenhagen once…

Well, now we at least have something tangible to analyze in the old “can it be done?” debate. Now I’m wondering if a trombone would work.

It’s funny, that first track, the banjo goes zooming on and the sax doesn’t really try to follow it, it just kind stays laidback, playing half the notes. It reminds me of me!

They have an interesting sound, though, and that’s important. More power to them!

I just listened to the samples, so this may not be a fair statement, but I loved the instrumentals but wassort of put off by the singer.

same here, don’t really care too much for the singing masel.

um… no… not really. :boggle: :astonished: :boggle: :astonished:

I like sax, but found it a little disturbing in that context…sounded too Lawrence Welkish to me.

I had visions of the sax player in a fur hat, sidelocks and a tallit. Gives the idea of orthodox ITM a whole new spin.

Are you saying that there’s something wrong with Larry!!?? Them’s fight’n words.

Actually, it sounds Polka-esk to me. Like an Irish German. I can imagine that sound at a Fest.

I gotta say that sax player stinks. If you want a little sax with your Irish music, go with “Itsbynne Reel” by Michael Brecker:

Of course, he’s playing a wind synthesizer most of the time, and it gets way jazzy after the first couple of minutes, but it’s a fantastic track.

Or.. (if you’ll permit me to toot my own horn… literally), here’s an MP3 of me playing “Last Rose of Summer” on sax (my main instrument):

It’s not exactly ITM, but hope you enjoy!

  • David (new guy here)

I said it so much more tactfully than you!

Loved the Last Rose, BTW. That’s easy, anyway, since that’s one of my favourite melodies. Any details on that track? Is that part of a released CD? Nice band! (or sequence, hard to tell these days)

I found your home page:

Love the sax quartet stuff too. Gotta go now, but i’ll listen more tomorrow.

Didn’t like the Brecker track, though. He seems to be trying to give self-indulgence a bad name.

The arrangement is mine also. It’s published if you know of a band and soloist that might be interested. I am backed up by my band, the Dallas Wind Symphony.

Thanks for the listen and the kudos. Now the sax player whose playing started this thread… um, he plays sax like I play whistle. How tactful is that?

There’s nothing ‘new’ about sax playing, loads of ceili bands had saxophones, Josie MCdermott tought of himself as a saxplayer, pipers Ronan Browne and JOBM are both saxplayers [although possibly they limit themselves to other music on it], Michel Bonamy plays the sax in loads of bands around here I have heard some really good reelplaying by saxplayers, it’s a bit of a novelty thing and I am not sure I’d want to hear much more but it’s never ‘new’.
