Hi
Does anyone have any opinion on these whistles on ebay?
I can see a maker’s stamp in the photo, but there is no info about the maker in the ad.

Ask the seller where it was made. If it is from India, or Pakistan, I would look for something else.
Noname sounds Japanese to me… ![]()
I was curious about these wistles too, and I looked at the seller feedback comments. These whistles seem to be well received by the buyers…
I guess that they are an imitation of Overton whistles made with tin instead of aluminium ?
Indian probably. Save your money.
sigh.
I wish people wouldn’t be so disparaging just because whistles are made in India/Pakistan. Quite frankly, I find that these xenophobic generalisations border on racism.
Yes, some whistles from Asia might not be top quality, but that applies to whistles from every country.

Mike,
Ouch. ![]()
It isn’t because the whistles are from India or Pakistan. It’s that this particular brand (which happens to be from there) really isn’t a good whistle. See this link and the internal links there: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?p=365901 (There are other discussions somewhere, but I don’t have time to look for them.)
This particular brand has had been around for awhile and been played by folks on the board. Those that asked are new to the board and wanted people’s opinions. Two experienced members of the board who know about these whistles gave their view to help. Nothing racist or xenophobic going on here.
Back to the original question: I have two whistles of this particular brand, and I’ve played a few of the Low Ds in stores. Some are fair, though not good. The two I have are mediocre to bad. I simply haven’t had the energy or the time to throw them away. I’d recommend saving your money.
Hmmmmm…STOP!
don’t throw them away! Somewhere in the archives there are other discussions about this type of whistle. I made the offer to tweak them for free, and no one took me up on the offer. So if you want to throw them away? How about I pay for the postage to throw them to me?
Point taken, and this may well not be a great whistle, but…
That’s a general statement which I interpret as “don’t trust any whistle made in India or Pakistan.” Similar comments have been made in other threads too. If the seller replies that it’s made in the US of A, should we buy it?
We wouldn’t judge a whistle as good/not good if it came from the USA or Europe - we’d check the specific brand. I think the same logic should apply to whistles from Asia.
Stay hoopy,
Mike
Hi
That raises the question… Are there any good whistles from Asia?

If you include Japan (and why wouldn’t we), Ken Matsusaka’s SZBE whistles are very fine pieces of work. And Chinese bamboo whistles can sometimes be hidden gems.
