Nominations for State/Province/Country tunes

In chat today we came up with the idea of choosing a tune to represent each US state. For example, Little Bag of Spuds (Idaho), Off to California (um, California), etc.

I don’t want to leave anyone out so let’s nominate tunes for provinces and countries too, or any other well-known national subdivision

Suggestions?

I like “How the Money Goes” for Nevada…

Nothing about “Flying Rat” seagulls, or Smelly ol’ lakes? How about the Olympic Scandal Slide???

I’m drawing a blank here!

Confused in Utah…

Bri~

Heheh we’ll work on it at the next session Bri!

Arizona-- “Give Us a Drink of Water”

How about letting Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Kansas share one - “Drowsy Maggie”, for example?

How about “My Home’s In Alabama” for, uh, er…, Georgia?

There’s always Josie McDermott’s “Baltimore Salute”. Or “Lady Baltimore” or “Rolling Hills of Maryland” recorded by Billy McComisky and Trian.

‘Spootiskerry’ or ‘Skibbereen’ for Saskatchewan.

‘Give me a drink of water’ for Arizona.

“Out on the Ocean” for Hawaii. “Ye Banks and Braes” if it’s what it sounds like, Louisiana. “The River is Wide” for any state with the Mississippi flowing through… especially Mississippi.

The Rolling Waves could work for Oregon or B.C., except I’m looking for a good mountain or forest title for B.C.

Blackbird, how about:

The Mist Covered Mountain

Mist on the Mountain

John of the Glen

Maggie in the Woods

???

Oh, I’ve lived in Oregon, Mist Covered Mountain would be very good!

Or what about Otter’s Holt? Lots of Otters and sea lions on the oregon coast.

likes otters very much. Was a neat coincidence that ‘nutria’ is another term for an otter

For Wyoming how about “Blow Ye Winds of the Morning”?

Ontario-Corney’s Coming(to be pronounced-“corn, ee’s coming!”)or Smog over the Lake(Ok I made that one up)

How about “Lark in the (un)Clean Air” for Delaware (many chemical companies and much poultry manure, for those that have not been here)

Ontario provincial Dance-
The Waves of Tor(ies)y,in honour of our generally reviled provincial government…

Mark_J-Thanks for the ceol.net site…I had to spend some time in Delaware cause my Dad worked for DuPont(But who doesn’t there?)…and it was pretty polluted then…

The Frieze Britches for Alaska
Saddle the Pony for Texas

We could also names tunes after famous landmarks or people:
Lady in the Island for the Statue of Liberty
Blarney Pilgrim for our man in Washington…humm…
Nine points of Roguery could go right under the Blarney Pilgrim…etc…
