Newbie Question

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me

I seem to be having trouble with c natural on my D sweetone, it just sounds a bit poor compared with the other notes, slightly sharp and feeble.

I use the second and third holes covered. I can get away with it when playing just the odd c here and there but if I play something like “The Three Sea Captains” it is not so good.

My Clarkes traditional in D sounds fine on C natural. Have I just got a duff Sweetone?

I am expecting delivery of a tweaked Jerrytone soon so hopefully this will remedy the situation.

I’m grateful for any observations you’d care to make

I find that some whistles need alternate fingerings for C natural.

Try these fingerings and see how they sound:

Top Bottom
OXX XOX
OXX OXX
OXX XOO

All else fails, learn to half-hole it. Just sort of slightly roll the whistle to the side with your finger, so you’re only covering some of the top hole (you’ll figure out how much you need to leave open with a bit of practice), it’s quite easy to do once you get used to it. I find it easier than the crossfingerings myself.
