Newbie looking for help...

Hello all. I suppose I ought to introduce myself - my name (as you might guess from my terribly uncreative user name) is Bill Steinen. I’m thirtysomething, currently living in Mary Esther, FL (right next door to Fort Walton Beach) and working as an operator for a telephone answering service. I’m married, with no kids but a flock of macaws and three dogs. I’ve loved traditional music ever since I can remember (“Brennan on the Moor” was a real hit in first grade  , especially Irish stuff and the Child ballads.

Anyway, the point of this longwinded post…I’m fairly obsessed right now with learning the whistle. I can go the book / tape / every CD I can track down route, but I’m really hoping to find an experienced player in my general area who would be willing to work with me a bit, either on a formal instructional basis or as a sort of mentor. I learn things much better with some feedback from a real live person. If you meet this description, or know of anyone who does, please drop me a line either here on the forum or by email. Any other advice is also welcome…

Thanks!

You may want to take a look at www.scoiltrad.com.

I have taken lessons on both flute and whistle. They are very worthwhile.

And, lest I forget, welcome! It’s very good to have you here.

Look in the phone book and on the internet for Irish clubs. That’s how I found someone. Also, you can look in the paper for listings of night clubs/pubs that play live music and see if any Irish bands are ever listed.
