New Whistle CD

I have a new CD of Traditional and original whistle tunes. it’s available on Itunes, amazon and other internet retailers. you can buy the actual CD and preview all the tracks at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nickmetcalf3

let me know what you think!

I just listened to several of the samples at cdbaby and I’m very impressed. I really like what you’ve done, especially combining original & traditional. I like the “modern” feel you have some of the (presumably) original tunes. I want to have another listen later but I do plan to buy the CD.

I’m curious how you did the drums. I’d like to make some recordings of some tunes I’ve written, but I’m really stuck about what to do for drums as I don’t play drums at all. I bought some loops but it doesn’t seem very flexible (for example most don’t have intros fills).

Thanks for your kind words. I do use a lot of live percussion and bodhran etc, but I also mix it with sampled drums from my soft-synth library. I have a good $4,000 invested in just samples that I use… It’s sort of like playing a keyboard, except it’s all on the computer, and many if the sounds are recordings of reall instruments. So, I would be happy to make tracks for you, (or anyone else) I charge $60.00 for a professional track, which is very modest for the quality of work I do. Then I just request to be mentioned as a producer of the song the track is used for in the liner notes. All I need
To know is the key the song is in and the time signature and a basic chord pattern or melody line. Anyways if you ever want some tracks you can email me: ethnicwinds@yahoo.com. Thanks!!

My compositions are just for my amusement as this is a hobby. Mainly I’m working out of a book called “Composing Music” and the melodies would sound much better with better harmony & some percussion. Which led me to learn a bit about Harmony and that I can do with my keyboard and some samples (such as Garriton Personal Orchestra). However for percussion I’m totally lost. I have some sampled percussion but just not sure how to use it. I’m not really talking about ITM here but just in general.

When I finish the book I would like to take you up on your offer so I can see what you come up with and hopefully learn from it. My goal is to be able to do my own percussion rhythms, however simplistic they may be. Listening to your CD will also help.

PS: I also checked out your ethnic wind site and your flutes are really beautiful with the celtic designs.
