New to the forum, hope I didn't post in the wrong place...

I didn’t see an introduction thread.

Anyway, I watched some videos in “The Great and Awesome Flute YouTube Thread” and wow! I was blown away.

Glad to be here. I’m a pretty long time guitar player, but have always loved the sound of a flute. So I recently got one. It’s a Tony Dixon and only a simple bore, but I can blow the bottom register well. I’m working hard on over-blows. I’ll get them in time.

Great fourum.

Hi and welcome aboard. Playing flute is so different than playing most other instruments. So much depends on the development of your embouchure, and you’ll have good days and bad days…just keep practicing!

Is your cheap Dixon on of his newer conical models or his older cylindrical models? Just curious! My first “real” Irish flute was Tony’s more expensive 3 piece conical model. It was a much better flute than I was a player at the time!

Eric

I got the older cylindrical type. I figure I won’t be good enough to appreciate a conical for a while yet. When I do I’ll get a better flute  Thanks for the welcome.

Well duh, I just got to looking at my flute and realized it is a conical bore

Good for me, usually when I make a mistake it’s a bad thing

Tony’s newer cheap models are conical…pretty cool for a flute at that price. I wondered if it was one of those.

Yeah I’m no flute tone expert by any stretch, but when I get my wind right this cheapo flute sounds pretty awesome to me. I’ll never regret buying it. A bargain in my eyes.
