New Roberts Chanter Reed

Hello,
This is my first post after months of following all the funny stuff that goes on here. Anyway, to the point, I have a Roberts practice set I’m borrowing til I can pay it off that badly needs a new reed. I was thinking of getting a Rogge reed since myself and a few other San Francisco Pipers club members switched a Rogge reed into it and it played beautifully. I was just wondering if this sounded like a decent idea. All the local reedmakers I’ve talked to have been to busy to make me one.

So why not make one yourself? I’ve not done so personally, but I’ve spoken with several pipers who either own or have reeded Roberts chanters. The consensus seems to be that they’re not all that difficult - to being pretty darn easy. Have a go - you won’t regret the experience!

I agree. Why not learn how to make the little buggers yourself. It will sure come in handy when you need a reed but no one’s around to make one for you.

Yeah, I’ve thought about getting the goods to do that, is there any place to get the neccessary equipment for a reasonable price. My being a dirt poor college student. Thanks for the idea.

Tim Britton offers everything you need…and to the best of my knowledge his prices are fair.

Seth Gallagher also has some stuff available at:

There are more sources, but at this time I am dead tired, and my mind is preoccupied with the approaching hurricane. If I am still around tomorrow evening I’ll come up with more.

Good Luck.

Yeah, Mother Nature’s been putting you guys over there through a living hell. Best of luck to you. And thanks for the info.

S’no problem. Thanks, and happy hunting!

I think you may be better to learn to play at least a little before having a go at reedmaking .So if you post your address here I will send you a reed that I have spare .It may or may not work but its worth a try!

I say post your address on the forum in the hope that some of the contributors to this forum who seem to know so much about reedmaking and are bound to have a spare reed lying about might also send you a reed that will work if the one I send you does,nt

If you dont want to post your address publically PM me

It seems strange that you couldn’t find anyone in the SF piper’s club to make you a reed. I don’t want to volunteer anyone’s services, but are you sure Ted A. couldn’t churn you out a reed? For an appropriate fee of course. Keep asking and I’m sure someone there will help you.

I have not yet given Ted andeson a try yet, my computer is a piece of junk and every time i tried e-mailing him it crashed, thus i never got around to it. I hould give him a try though. As for acceping spares, that would be wonderful. My address here at school is:

101 McLaughlin Drive
Stevenson College #187
Santa Cruz, CA 95064
USA

If anybody has any spares they can…well, spare, that would make my poor college student life a whole lot easier and i would be most appreciative. Thanks.

Mike,

We are presently living in what will be my workshop, the contents of which are boxed up. I am months away from being set up to make reeds. We have reedmaking classes at the club soon. Good luck. Ted.
