Hi Harry -
What is this tune “Tom Busby’s Jig”? I know a “Tom Busby’s” which is a 2-part jig, but it doesn’t sound like that 3-parter at all? It is lovely, though…
Thanks for your insight.
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,
I learned it from a tape in the NPU archive of Busby’s playing (or could it have been Carney playing?), I don’t know much about it. My head for facts and names is useless, but the tape was definitely from the Tom Busby collection that was donated to NPU after his passing.
Kevin R, in a comment on that blog post, suggests that Tom B called it Mike Carney’s. If so, it likely came from him. Kevin also mentions that it was transcribed for An Piobaire some years ago.
It’s certainly a different tune to the ‘Tom Busby’s’ that Clancy et al played.
Regards,
Harry.
Thanks for this man, great stuf…cheers
Just added your site to my Favorites, Harry. Lovely playing-makes me want to take a break from the flute and pick up some pipes.
All the best,
Sean
Beautiful playing, actually. Added to my favorites.
I love the tunes and the sound quality. It is unadulterated and I love it. I seem to have a problem getting on it today, perhaps it is just my computer. Are these played on a C set?
Hi Kmag,
Podbean tell me that I need to upgrade my account (i.e. give them dough) cos I’ve exceeded my bandwidth allocation (to do with how many people hit/download the sound clips?) They’ve limited the account til I cough up.
I’m stuck in a hotel in Luton airport, so I won’t get to it for a day or two ![]()
It’s a C set by Joe Kennedy that I’m playing there.
Regards,
H.
I couldn’t gain access just now. But the hornpipes are my favorites!!!
I have a C half set that I recently got from Brad Angus. It is great to hear tunes recorded in C since it seems to be a more rare key although I don’t know why, they sound lovely.
I look forward to hearing more!
Hi,
I just upgaded my account with podbean.com, so the sound files should be accessible from now on.

H.
Hey Harry
You should put a 1 or 2 euro PayPal button on there - might make the thing self-supporting straight away.
Hi, bill.
If we’re at that sort of thing, maybe the Irish Government should consider putting a similar ‘donate’ button where Ireland appears on Google map???
Regards,
Harry.
That’s a smashin’ idea Harry. I fear however that 2 euro a pop won’t do it!
Maybe 200K per customer?
I just wanted to bump this for anyone who missed the original thread.
Nice playing, Harry.
You’ve been busy the last few days.
Got a bit done on me holidays.
Regards,
H.
I adore your playing, Harry. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Lovely stuff Harry. The effect to me, on the ear, is like you’ve somehow simplified it - got to the essence of it. (I know it ain’t simple to do.
) Beautiful.
Nice clips on the linked site too. I particularly liked the piano in The Cup of Tea. That’s where I’ve been going wrong all these years - if only I’d known it was in G … ![]()
Seriously - well worth a trip down those byways.
