New Pipers' Gathering CD and other announcements

Dear Friends of the Pipers’ Gathering,

We want to take this opportunity to thank our participants, instructors, and volunteers for making the 2006 Pipers’ Gathering a great success. We also have some exciting post-event announcements to share with you.

NEW PIPERS’ GATHERING CD RELEASED!

The 2006 event saw the release of our second CD, “The Pipers’ Gathering 2005 : Live from Killington Vermont”. This CD contains 21 tracks of live performances from our 2005 concerts by Brian McNamara, Dick Hensold, Matt Seattle, Hamish Moore, Julian Goodacre, Ellen MacPhee, Anthony Santoro, and Emmett Gill. If you were present at the concerts in 2005, the CD is a great way to recapture the magic of the event. If you weren’t with us in 2005, buy the CD and hear what you missed!

PIPERS’ GATHERING 2007 DATES

The 2007 Pipers’ Gathering will be held once again at the Killington Grand Hotel, August 10 - 13, 2007. Mark your calendars and watch for event announcements in the coming months!

PIPE AUCTION RESULTS

Our auction of the keyless Northumbrian smallpipes raised $2000 for the Pipers’ Gathering. We want to thank Richard and Anita Evans for generously donating the set, and all of our bidders for their support.

UPPER POTOMAC PIPER’S WEEKEND

The stated purpose of the Pipers’ Gathering Inc. is to promote the music and playing of bagpipes in all their forms through workshops, education, social, and cultural endeavors. To that end, we’re helping to spread the word about a new Piper’s Weekend in the mid-Atlantic region. The first annual Upper Potomac Piper’s Weekend will be held January 5-7, 2007 at the Historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. The piping instructors will be Jerry O’Sullivan (Uilleann pipes), Bob Mitchell (Scottish smallpipes) and Ian Lawther (Northumbrian smallpipes).

SO YOU THINK YOU MISS NORTH HERO…

We know many of you miss North Hero, and we do too, but we’d like to share the following note that aptly illustrates the wisdom of the move to Killington:

" went to North Hero a couple of nights ago to have a meal with friends. Mike Tranby (owner of the Shore Acres Inn, our previous home) had told them that last Sunday they had lashing rain and very high winds; it was so severe that they lost four sections of their floating dock.

"I thought about the date for a minute and realized that if we had not changed the time of the event and the venue then that Sunday would have been the weekend of the Pipers’ Gathering. I imagined gale force winds and lashing rain with the big marquee and four other tents!

“I am SO GLAD that we changed to Killington!!!”

Just got mine today, and as with the last one, there’s all sorts of piping to tempt and tickle the ear. Some great UP playing by Brian McNamara, Emmett Gill and Anthony Santoro. Always interesting to hear new and wonderful types of pipes, as well.

Well worth the price IMHO.
