new (old) little flute

Hi people,
Just wanted to let you know about a little flute I just got back into playing order. I bought it off ebay three years ago for about 100 bucks and it sat on my wall for the last couple of years. Its rosewood block mounts with six silver keys and stamped G.J. Best London which no one seems to know anything about, anyway a friend of mine "borrowed’ it off my wall and had it fixed for me and gave it back to me. It still has bad cracks but he sealed it with wood putty and superglue and it holds. It now has an old uilleann pipe chanter top as an end cap. Not pretty but an amazing player in E. Now my question is it doesn’t get to eflat until the slide is about an inch out? is this a high pitched eflat flute, what were they using these for (marching, military) anyway before you think about throwing away those high pitched flutes or not buying them for that reason its awfully nice to play A tunes with g fingering on this flute and be in tune with those fiddlers, Patrick
I asked a while ago when I bought it but anyone haerd of G.J. Best (cheap band flutes?)
