I recently received a new set of Concert pitch Drones frome David Quinn. David has once again redesigned his Bass drone, and it is phenomenal. The design now has a bend upon leaving the stock, and no U-Bend at the end of the drone. It is straight, very much like the older sets. Previously, David was using an integral Taylor-like design on the Bass. This too sounds excellent, and I know because I also have a full set in C as well with that configuration which I love. But, this new drone set-up however is a marvel to hear, with a deep, warm hum which vibrates your inner gut. Combined with BK’s chanter, its unreal. When I can post a photo I will. And no, I don’t know anybody, etc., I just think craftsmanship such as this should be recognized.

Yep, thats the design, except mine are in ebony and brass. The sound is unbelievable for a Concert pitch set, and they have that "Old School " look to them. All hail the “Mighty Quinn”!!
My Rogge sets have the same drone arrangement as that shewn above.Nothing new here.Andreas has been making them like this for many years now,must be about 20+ years,the drones are warm sounding but that is how all drones should sound,not that some makers seem to appreciate this(players too!)
I too have straight ends(except the B set which has a turned end with a soundbox)) and it makes not the slightest difference to the sound.

I think the drone reeds make much more difference that how the bass drone tubing runs. I personally like the U bend at the end and a round “hockey puck” end fitting.

Be sure to include Elder drone reeds on the list. They’re absolutely beautiful.
