Peter Noy restored and made a new head for my R&R, i really love to tune and how it plays, much better then the original head.
eilam.
good luck !
Thanks for the advice, This is my first post on the C&F, there’s so much good stuff here, and I know that I’ll get some valuable advice and information. I’ve had the Metzler for about a year now, and left it aside when I got my new Ormiston, which is a wonderful instrument, but lately I seem to play the Metzler more, depite it not being at A440. it’s also a lot lighter than the Ormiston, if not as loud.
Cheers,
Harry
If I were you, I might look up Chris Wilkes in Herefordshire. He does wonderful work, and by wonderful, I mean wonderful.
A new head does wonders for old flutes.

You should search for posts by eskin with keywords metzler and headjoint. I think Hammy made the headjoint for his Metzler, with which he was very pleased.
Yes, so funny I just had it out this afternoon for some tunes.
I had Hammy build me a matching headjoint for my 1857 Metzler to play better at A440. The original headjoint seemed to be set more for A453 or higher, when pushed in all the way was pretty much an E-flat. I would have to pull it out nearly an inch to get down to modern D and it would lose a lot of the tone quality in the process. I’m absolutely thrilled with the results, with the new headjoint I’m able to get a really full sound at A440.

Thanks everyone for your kind advice. I’ve just emailed Hammy with an enquiry about having one made, and, as I’ve just sold an Ormiston, I can pay for it without selling my wife! Hammy made me a six-key about 14 years ago which, due to indigence, I had to sell. More fool me, it was a lovely instrument!
Thanks again
Harry
