New Flute Tutorial from June McCormack (2009)

June McCormack has just published a second flute tutorial entitled 'Fliúit 2’. This is a follow on to her 2006 tutorial ‘Fliúit’. Fliúit 2 is most suitable for intermediate and advanced flute players. It is a tutorial to develop repertoire, ornamentation and breathing. Two CDs are included with 78 tracks. Each tune is played at a slow pace and then at a faster pace. Thirteen exercises are recorded to practice each type of ornament.
Fliúit 2 includes 65 arranged tunes, with breathing & ornamentation suggestions for each tune. There are over thirty reels and seventeen jigs in this collection to enable players to develop repertoire. A small number of the tunes require the use of the F natural and B flat keys, which offer a challenge to advanced players.

June performs extensively with her husband, harpist Michael Rooney. They have released two albums as Draíocht. Their first album entitled Draiocht was released in 2004, and its successor ‘Land’s End’ was launched in 2006.

June was recipient of ‘TG4 Young Tradtional Musician of the Year Award’ in 1998.
June has been teaching flute for over 15 years workshops and classes both in Ireland and internationally.

I hope you bring a bunch of them to the Catskills. I know I’ll be lining up for a copy. I’m still working my way through book 1; but it is a real inspiration. Every now and then, I’ll crack open the book, put the CD in the player and and cover another page - and then practice that for a week or two.

Highly recommended to all flute Chiffers.

All the best,

Tom
