New Clare D 2 part whistle

I just received a Clare 2 part D whistle from Thom over at the Whistle Shop today. What a nice little whistle, and it was only $12 or so. Tunable, brass tube, green fipple, and it breaks down small enough to fit in the old pants pocket allowing for stealth playing ability.

How does it sound? Well, I’m more of a flute player than a whistler, but I’d say it’s a pretty pure sound with just a bit of chiff. I really like it (I like it a lot better than my Clarke original, Gen. D, or the Waltons LBW). It’s most like a Gen in sound. It’s pretty easy to get up into the high A & B range without sounding too shrill (I’ve yet to find a high whistle that doesn’t get annoying up in the C, D range), doesn’t break octaves to easily, and has a nice amount of back pressure.

All in all, I’m pretty happy (except I’m still waiting for my new flute - only 37 to 65 more days…not that I’m counting).

Just thought I share my opinion on this whistle since I don’t see too many posts about it.

That’s odd. I’d say the Clare has tons of (what I call) chiff. I’ve only played one, though, so it might be differences between each Clare..

It may be how we each define Chiff…like I said, I’m primarily a flute player who likes a nice whistle around for a change of pace.

Still, do you like the Clare, too?

I like it with a Whitecap head on it.

Hi Eric,
See the very recent ‘2 piece whistle poll’ thread, which is the reason for my re-discovery of my own 2 piece Clare.

I have a two-piece around here somewhere. I remember I used to enjoy playing it quite a bit. Maybe I should start looking for it and rediscover it again…
