I recently picked up a new Clare 2 piece whistle to replace a long gone green top Clare 2 piece. The tuning, according to my electronic tuner, is much better on this tube - the whistle head still looks to be of the same design despite the color change. I did have to remove some chaff (appeared to be burned brass tubing on most of the tone holes - prior to that the tuning seemed off on a few notes).
Anyone else have any experience with the newer Clares? I always like the chiffy sound they have, and with the better tuning this is my new favorite cheap whistle…with a really sweet second octave.
I bought a 2-piece red-head Clare a couple of weeks ago to use with a Hoover whitecap. It’s a pretty decent whistle just stock, but is wonderful with the whitecap. That’s the pocket-whistle I’m taking with me on my trip to England this week!
I have a one-piece nickel Clare with a black head. I like the tone quite a bit and it’s pretty easy to play in both octaves. However, according to my tuner it’s got a few tuning problems - but not too bad to the ear. I’ll have to check for some burrs that may be throwing it off.
