New C chanter from Pablo Carpintero

Pablo Carpintero has designed a new chanter, based on a model from his grandfather mixed with an old chanter from El Bierzo (near to Leon). Is tuned in C, and can be played in open fingering an also in galician closed-fingering. But the best thing is that you can overblow notes very easy, you can play chromatic-scales, and it has the old flavour of ancient galician chanters. We can say it is the chanter of the year, indeed.

Totally amazing!!! I am not sure how the closed fingering for a Galician chanter is, I play open finger. I just do not understand how a chanter can be played both ways!!! I can over-blow like 5 notes into the second octave with my JR chanter (puntero), so I was not all amazed by that. Asturian and Galician closed fingering look very similar to me!!!

Hey Luife, thanks for the information. I like the old photograph of the gaitero. How common was it for gaitas to be blown using bellows? Does anybody use bellows today with their gaitas?

Interesting stock design (like a tree with a branch)… is that typical of these old gaitas?
