Quoted from Claddagh:
Yet another delightful debut album Mikie Smyth is a young Dublin piper whose name has been news for a few years. Thankfully he didnt rush into publication and has now presented us with a totally mature, technically brilliant selection of tunes on Flute, whistle and uilleann pipes. His use of melodic variation indicates a total ease with the tradition (and indeed his whistle rendition of The Gold Ring is a perfect example of this). Its a beautiful tribute to the people who passed on their gift to him, and a recording that can stand alongside any that has ever gone before.
I enjoyed it.
