So I’m going to perform tonight and recently my Generation Nickel Bb whistle [Freeman tweaked] has suddenly started to act pretty strange lately.. It seems and feels like it’s clogging when I play for a bit but when I look at it inside and out, I don’t see any problems. Any solutions to this? Diagnosis? Etc??
By the way, I read that dishwashing liquid helps clogging.. Or was I just reading too many William Sonoma catalogs?
The Gen Bb whistle has a very good sound. And it is better when tweeked by Jerry Freeman. I think he would help you with yours.
Yes dishwashing soap can help slow down cloging. Dilute some in water than put the whistle head in it for a few minutes. Then let it dry and play.
Other things that may help are to use dupnol. Hold the whistle horizontal so the moisture does not gravitate to the end of the windway. Turn the head upside down. The moisture build up does not affect playing as bad when it builds up on the windway roof as it does on the floor. Warm the head in your hand before playing, or blow through the fipple window. Take breaths through your mouth or the cornors of your mouth to help dry the inside of your mouth.
I had a gen style whistle that went flat on me one night. Washed and blew thru it, no help.
Ran a paper matchstick thru the fipple and removed some schmutz that had accumulated. That cured it.
